She Will Reign To Melbourne; Portelli To Perth

Brilliant Manhattan Rain filly She Will Reign is off to Melbourne for a tilt at the G1 Oakleigh Plate after her winning return to racing at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

The Gary Portelli-trained filly was having her first start since The Everest in October.

She Will Reign Horseform (Manhattan Rain x Courgette) was a $20,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale buy for Darby Racing from the Ambergate Farm draft, as agent for Middlebrook Station. She was bred by Garry Bachell.

Scott Darby, from ownership group Darby Racing, was delighted with the Golden Slipper Stakes winner’s return.

“She only had one trial so missed a bit of work and needed the run so it was just the perfect pipe-opener for her,’’ Darby said.

Meanwhile her trainer Gary Portelli will return to Perth for the Magic Millions yearling sale after his talented colt Patron Black recent win in Canberra.

Patron Black Horseform is by Darling View Thoroughbreds sire Patronize and cost Portelli 46,000 at the 2017 Perth Magic Millions. He also bought his classy 2YO winner Secret Lady at the same sale.

Patronize is a three-quarter brother to Exceed And Excel and built up a 60% strike-rate headed by Magic Millions 3YO Trophy winner Enchanted Dream and G2 placed Mystic Maid.

Darling View catalogues its yearlings under Western Breeders’ Alliance at the Perth Magic Millions. Among its Patronize fillies in this month sale is a full-sister to Perth winner and stakes placed Parading.

Patron Black is from Red Belly Black (Rock Of Gibraltar) who won at Flemington on debut.

Inglis Sprint 3 , 1100m
Race Synopsis: Against moderate opposition last year’s Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner She Will Reign had no difficulty whatsoever, racing clear then easing down to win as she liked. Rider Ben Melham elected to go forward early but they didn't lead clearly until the 800m. She cruised to the 200m where Melham gave her a shake and bounded clear then Melham dropped his hands and let her coast to the line. Acqume tracked the winner into the straight and tried hard but was never going to catch her to finish second from Limbo Soul who nabbed a hard ridden late dab into third.
