Youngsters Stepping Up For The Autumn
Another Snitzel colt has emerged as a Golden Slipper Stakes contender after the unbeaten Sandbar recorded an impressive win in the Listed Lonhro Plate at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
Prepared by Brad Widdup and racing in the colours of Damion Flower's Jadeskye Racing, Sandbar has now won both of his starts after a debut win at Canterbury.
Sandbar was bred and sold by John Singleton's Strawberry Hill Stud for $650,000 at last year's Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Sandbar (Snitzel x Tallow by Street Cry) provided Arrowfield Stud’s champion sire Snitzel with his 78th stakes winner and his 20th Australian stakes winner this season.

Snitzel is now seven away from breaking his grandsire Danehill’s stakes winning record which he equalled last season.
Widdup celebrated his first stakes success as a trainer and said Sandbar would be aimed at the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill on March 24.
"He has a great attitude," Widdup said. "He has still got improvement to come and there are plenty of options for him heading to the Slipper.
“That win probably puts him in the field so we can take our time to pick our next race."
THE late stallion Stratum sired his 37th stakes winner at Warwick Farm on Saturday when the Mark Newnham-trained The Enzo won the $250,000 Inglis Classic.
The Enzo (Startum x Danica by Sebring) was having the fourth start of his career for his first win.
Purchased as a yearling by PL Bloodstock for $50,000, The Enzo is the first foal out of the winning mare Danica and has now earned $156,960.
Danica is from the unraced mare Household (Chester House), a half-sister to Listed winner Danzari (Arazi) and the stakes-placed Delegate (Polish Precedent).
The Enzo’s half brother by Deep Field sold for $170,000 at the opening session of the Sydney Classic Yearling Sale on Saturday night where he was purchased by Alan Bell.
Stratum, who died in 2014 after suffering a heart attack, has left five G1 winners.
Mark Newnham trains The Enzo for agent Patrick Lee, a strong supporter of his stable since he started training three years ago.
The Enzo was the only yearling Lee bought at last year’s Classic Sale.
“This horse was not so expensive but still a really nice horse for the owners,’’ Lee said.
“He was a good type, the eye was shiny and his walk was very smooth and strong.”
• FLYING Spur’s classy son Magnus sired his 15th stakes winner when the Lindsay Park-trained filly Enbihaar’s won the G2 Blue Diamond Prelude Stakes at Caulfield.

Enbihaar (Magnus x Charm's Honour by Strada) was purchased by Shadwell Australasia for $200,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Segenhoe Stud draft and has won her only two starts.
Enbihaar, who won her first start at Morphettville last month, will join stablemates Long Leaf (Fastnet Rock) and Ennis Hill (Fastnet Rock) as likely runners in the $1.5 million Blue Diamaond Stakes on February 24.
Her dam Charm’s Honour is from the family of G1 winners Quick Star (Success Express) and Rouslan (Ideal Planet).
Enbihaar is the third Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase for Shadwell Stud to win at stakes level as a juvenile this season.

Race Synopsis: Sandbar upset the warm favourite to take his record to two wins in two starts. He jumped well but was kept out early to be three wide but handy, where he remained around the turn, moving forward to second into the straight. Rider Christian Reith asked for more at the 300m but the response was missing. They were third at the 200m and looked beaten but the youngster grabbed the bit and charged for the line between runners, doing best by a neck in a determined finish. Favourite Satin Slipper rounded into the straight in fourth, looked the one to beat past the 200m but could not match the determination of the winner. Oxford Tycoon led for most of the journey, was clear at the 200m but ran out of gas to finish third ahead of Osorno who ran into fourth along the fence. | ||||||||||
