Where was Squid? A single lay stood between him and victory and he was MIA? The top two seeds still had their gun in their holsters and it was left to Captain Braveheart, Imajeel to provide a solo finale! Two out of three aint bad, but with a bit more luck, Imajeel could have landed all three lays and stolen the title!

Incredibly, all players made a profit. Squid has managed profits every year and now becomes runner up for the third consecutive year. Imajeel slipped to fourth due to one of his risky lays backfiring on Saturday.

Racing2Win’s superb performance earns him the title of Superlayer 2017 and all the bulldust trimmings that go with it.

Here’s the fat reduced version of how he did it.

LAY                SP      Laid $      Pos     Profit
23/09/17 MR6 Brave Smash        $1.72      1,000      2nd    +$1,389
01/10/17 MR5 Catchy             $2.07      1,000      3rd      +$935
23/12/17 MR7 Muraahib           $5.96        500      0th      +$101

That’s three out of three including two superlays for an impressive +$2,425!

LAYERS' LEADERBOARD 2017
Racing2win   +$2,425
Squid69      +$2,163
Gladys       +$1,835
Imajeel      +$1,194
Mantank        +$301
Khaptingly      +$71

Imajeel’s lays for last Saturday...

LAY                   SP    Laid $    Pos     Profit
SR3 New Universe               $4.80    500     4th     +$132
MR3 Live in Wire               $2.78 1,000     1st   -$1,000
BR8 Cabeza De Vaca             $5.31    500     0th     +$116

Overall result -$752

In a desperate attempt to make up ground, I've scoured the eastern states morning lines on the R&S form guides looking for beatable shorties, but they are hard to find. I even looked at Adelaide and the Gold Coast. I came up with a couple who should be a lay price, and who I think will struggle, mostly cos they are midweek up to a stronger rated Saturday race.

BR8 #3 Cabeza De Vaca
MR3 #6 Life on the wire
SR3 #4 New Universe

Nothing in yet from the 2 leaders here, so with luck I might just be in with a hope!

Good luck all

Is it now that i claim Muraahib drifted from $2.50 out to $6 because of me? Something to do with my legion of fans. I cant exactly keep up.

Well done Squid, excellent lay

The laying prowess of R2Win and Squid is there for all to see. Both laid horses this morning that were expected to be Superlays with both horses finishing unplaced and proving our star Superlayers correct.

Even the forum’s self professed “Greatest Layer Of All time” – acronym GLOAT – would have been impressed by our Layers’ acumen today!

Hats off to you Squid for flushing out R2Win and landing yet another superb Superlay (MR5 Imperial Aviator). R2Win’s lay (MR7 Muraahib), unfortunately drifted alarmingly in betting and became an ordinary lay. He must front up again next week to protect his lead, while Squid will be asked to flex his tentacles for the third consecutive week. And let’s not forget the silent stalker, Imajeel!

Only one Superlaying Saturday remains. Who will be the Superlay King for 2017?

LAYERS' LEADERBOARD
Racing2win   +$2,425
Squid69      +$2,163
Imajeel      +$1,946
Gladys       +$1,835
Mantank        +$301
Khaptingly      +$71

Player                 LAY                     SP    Laid $     Pos     Profit
R2Win       MR7     Muraahib               $5.96    $500      0th     +$101
Squid89      MR5     Imperial Aviator        $2.84 $1,000      0th     +$543

Moonee Valley Race 5 Imperial Aviator.

It may seem very risky to back against a Waterhouse/Bott trained galloper who is an on pacer running at the Valley. However I think he is up in class a little, and with a small weight advantage both Oncidium Ruler and Dandy Gent are big threats. Currently $2.25.

Squid, I see you brought your steamroller along. Great vision finding two successful Superlays in a belated, but spectacular return to the Superlay arena.

Unfortunately Imajeel, your unsuccessful Superlay Victorem won by the barest possible margin, but you were able to overcome most of the deficit with your subsequent winning Superlay on Vinland, a shock to many punters, but not to you and Squid.

We now have a four way tussle with only two Saturdays left in 2017 and everybody still in the black!

Will R2Win sit back and wait for the others to implode, or will he go to the well just one more time?

LAYERS' LEADERBOARD
Racing2win   +$2,324
Imajeel      +$1,946
Gladys       +$1,835
Squid69      +$1,620
Mantank        +$301
Khaptingly      +$71

Imajeel                               SP      Laid $   Pos    Profit
SR2 Victorem                         $2.28    $1,000   Won - $1,000
MR4 Vinland                          $2.32    $1,000   4th     +$758
Overall result: Imajeel -$242

Squid69                               SP      Laid $   Pos    Profit
AR2 Via Balciano                     $2.16    $1,000   3rd    + $862
MR4 Vinland                          $2.32    $1,000   4th    + $758
Overall result: Squid +$1,620

G’day Gary. I’ve only been having the odd look at the Forum in recent times, but thought I’d chuck in my two bobs worth late in the piece.
I have to agree with Imaj Eel, Vinland is a risk going on weights and measures, Atone will be a big danger. Vinland $2.10 atm.

Also Morphetville Race 2 Via Balciano looks an up and comer, but there looks to be some depth in this small field. Willing to risk him tomorrow. $2.30 currently.

SR2 #6 Victorem. This is a baby having its first run outside 2yo grade and there are a couple of tough old grinders in here. Appears to me a superlay if we can get it at $2.90 or less. If it starts over $3.50, I dont want to be on please, Gary

MR4 #6 Vinland. Jumping from 3yo restricted to open age. Still a BM 70, but much tougher more experienced opposition.

Track on Sat will be good three and his history shows softer tracks seem more to his liking. Also, head to head, #10 Atone has 3kg advantage on him for a strong 2nd last time.

Thanks again for the bookkeeping Gary.

You’re in the money again Imajeel! Big drifter in betting which took it from a Superlay to an Ordinary lay, but a good result just the same.

Lay SR8 #9 Zonk.

Going from a loss in a midweek BM72 race to a Sat BM86. Much stronger class and should be a lot longer than $2.20 quoted in my paper.

I think the Oaks Fav will struggle, with some better horses here trained to get a trip and peaking now, not 2 weeks ago, so Superlay..

Thanx for the good work Gary

Well done Gladys.   The fav was a silly price . A traders dream .    Was up and down between 4.8 & 5.6 on Betfair many many times.   I felt "unders" = anything below $7.

Credit where it is due .
