Hobart: Race 7 @ 6:22pm

CHAIN OF FOOLS is down from Sydney for Gai and Adrian and looks a nice each way bet against the firm favourite. Won easily twice at this trip before a plainer run last time at Canterbury. Expect her to be at best for this. No knock on MISTER SONGMAN who has won 4/5 including the last two in Open 3s and the mile shouldn’t bother. Suggest however that the odds gap between him and the above (2.4 v 7.5) is too big. PENNSTOCK races handy and comes off a hat-trick. Has good ability but this is a bit harder. PATEENA ARENA will be peaking and is racing well enough to boost value in the multiples. SELECTIONS: Backing the filly #10 Chain Of Fools each way.

$7.00 is Chain Of Fools’ current price.

Using Ladbrokes Odds boost however, $8.50 is available.

Wagga: Race 2 @ 1:35pm

O' So Hazy and Great Panache should turn it on early. O' SO HAZY has won three of her past four. She led all for a dominant display here on the Riverside track three weeks ago. Tremendously well weighted today and will take some catching. GREAT PANACHE is a model of consistency. She weakened out after making the pace at Echuca last start. Has a good record at this track and can find improvement. NAGGING fresh still has upside and wouldn't be the worst for exotic players. SELECTIONS: O' So Hazy to lead all.

Muswellbrook: Race 5 @ 4:15pm

Back To My Bay, No Effort Needed and Tears Of Gold look the pacesetters. BACK TO MY BAY has performed well of late. She led all when winning at Canberra latest defeating a horse who has come out and won again since. Always encouraging when that happens and she can carry on here. NO EFFORT NEEDED was beaten narrowly at Newcastle last time out. 61kg is a worry but the inside draw should rectify any excuse. TEARS OF GOLD for the multiples. SELECTIONS: Back To My Bay straight out.

Port Macquarie: Race 8 @ 7:04pm

Mother's Presence and Sepae the likely pacesetters. SUPER TONIC resumes. Showed above average ability during her maiden prep which commenced with back to back victories. Spelled after she was tested in a Highway Handicap. This is a good deal easier, particularly after the scratching of Serious Star. PATRIOT threw his chances away at the start last month at Tuncurry when he missed the kick by three lengths. Assess chances in this based on his solid third at this course the run prior. SELECTIONS: #5 Super Tonic straight out in the last from #4.

Cranbourne: Race 8 @ 9:30pm

INVINCIBLE AMICI showed good ability at her maiden campaign including a strong Warracknabeal win over this distance on debut. May have improved with maturity and expecting her to be wound up to go well fresh. SAVVY SHIELDS was too speedy when winning at Stony Creek first up. That was her second win from just three starts and she has good upside. Looking for a good run from MY AIM IS TRUE first up. SELECTIONS: Backing #8 Invincible Amici for a resuming win from #3 and #7.

R7 HOBART 12 January 2018
Crown Lager Tasmanian Guineas 3 , 1600m
Race Synopsis: In a surprise result, outsider Overplay claimed his first stakes success and his second win in seven starts. He began well and settled in third place on the rails from his inside barrier (1). He got a split at the 200m, took the lead at the 100m and then fought back to win nicely, seemingly appreciating the Soft 5 conditions. Double You Tee raced in fifth place on the rails, improved between runners nearing the home turn, then kept running on solidly (wide out) for a late-closing second. Pateena Arena settled in eighth place before moving up (wide) nearing the 600m. She went deep on straightening and kept making ground to take the minor placing in a photo from the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly Chain Of Fools who was checked early on before settling at the tail of the 11-horse field. She was then under riding coming to the home turn before responding over the closing stages, making late ground for fourth, looking somewhat unlucky. The short-priced favourite Mister Songman, a winner of four of his first five prior starts, led the field to the home turn but faded over the latter stages for fifth.
