Sunday, 4 May 2025:
Australian curlers Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt have claimed a historic mixed doubles bronze medal at the world championships in Canada.
The 2022 Olympians compiled an impressive 8-1 win-loss record in the group stages before suffering a narrow semi-final loss to Scotland.
But Gill and Hewitt regrouped in the third-place playoff in Fredericton, downing Estonia 9-2 to win Australia's first major curling medal.
"Since 2018 we have built and built year-in year-out, got to the 2022 Olympics and that was a fantastic feeling, and then this year we have had close to 11 podiums, it's impressive and I am proud of what we have done", said Hewitt.
"We have come up a little bit short for direct Olympic qualification which is bittersweet.
"But getting the bronze, you can't be too disappointed with that."
